Konris Captures his 5th Calypso Title

After a two year sabbatical, Konris returned in grand style with 1144 points, with his two renditions of ‘Oil and Water’ and ‘2020.’

First Runner-up went to 2010 monarch King Pungwa who amassed 1100 points with his tunes ‘Lady Caribbean’ and ‘Superman.’   Big lice captured the Second Runner up position with his renditions ‘Enough is Enough’ and ‘ Ain so Calypso go’, collecting a total of 1052 points, to the surprise of many persons, who thought he should have won the competition. With 1020 points Anastasia got the third runnerup spot.konriscar

The Competition started out with veteran calypsonian, King Socrates who paid a tribute to our sporting heroes, including members of the 4×100 male relay team headlined by Kim Collins. Also honoured in song was the former Caribbean boxing champion, Fighting Hunks.

The show progressed smoothly, despite intermittent showers, with the other calypsonians coming out and wowing the crowd with their presentations and strong performances.

New comer to the finals, Mighty Take Over, despite not capturing a winners place, many persons felt he represented himself well with his renditions ‘Ghetto State of Mind’ and ‘Book and Commonsense in recession too.”

Although the some fans left the Sugar Mill happy with the results, many felt Big Lice was ‘hard done’ by the judges who were AU Browne, Samuel Berridge, Dr. Garfield Alexander, Sandra Daveron, Jervan Swanston, Gairy Knight, Christina York, Sylvester Charles and Calvin Esdaille.konrisper

The competition was hosted by Calypso Reggie who had the crowd laughing and dancing all night and also commended the Calypso Sub Committee for their early start to the show.

One of the guest artistes that was well received by the audience was the newly crowned King of the MiyVue.com/ZIZ King of the Tents Competition, King Rock-a-Fella.
