Lady Gaga Offered ‘Lettuce Dress’ By Animal Rights Group

Gaga’s most famous costume is, of course, the meat dress that she wore to the 2010 Mtv Video Music Awards, causing outrage among animal rights groups. The largest of those, Peta (Protection for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), has now written to the pop star’s publicist asking that she redress the balance and wear a frock made entirely of lettuce when in India, reports Reuters. Asking her to respect the reverence that the largely Hindu country holds animals in, the Indian branch of the group has suggested she turn vegetarian for the duration of her stay. According to Peta India’s Sachin Bangera, “We’ll make her a dress entirely of lettuce and held together by pins and threads. It will be a full length gown, and we’ll make sure it looks sexy”.

Sadly for them, Gaga doesn’t appear to be in the mood for more of her famed outre fashion statements this weekend. The UK’s Daily Mail reports how she turned up for a press conference in India on Friday (October 28th 2011) looking relatively low key in an asymmetrical gown by Indian-American designer Naeem Khan. She did, however, hint at something more extravagant for her performance, saying “My outfit is going to be a hybrid of my vision and the Indian vision. I have modernised it a bit. There will be some surprises and I am very excited for you to see my show”.
