According to an official at VhCommunications & Marketing Agency, the company that organizes the interview contest, the purpose of the event was to help the contestants in overcoming fear for public speaking in front of large audiences. It was also intended to help the delegates practice their delivery presentation skills, on key issues from their biography and on current affairs. These are the two critical areas, from which questions will be drawn for their on stage interview, during the actual pageant, on the night of the contest, slated for 27th December, 2011.
The hostess for the live radio interview was the reigning National Carnival Queen, Ms. Iantavian Queeley, who indicated also that the public interview came as part of the ongoing training sessions, organized by VhCommunications & Marketing Agency, for the contestants. Facilitator for the training is Mr. Val Henry.
Henry explained that it was expected that the contestants would have been under much public scrutiny and that they would have been terrified, speaking in front of so many people; but that is exactly why the session was done. He said it is part of the training to give them a simulation of what the pressure would be like on pageant night. For some of the contestants, this is their first major contest, thus it is critical for them to enter the major event, with some level of experience, in public speaking, Henry stated.
Henry told MiyVue.com that he hopes that all the contestants would have walked away from the exercise in a better position about what to expect on 27th December.
The next major test for the contestants will be the Television version of the MiyVue.com/ZIZ Interviews, on Monday night, at 8:30pm, on ZIZ. Members of the public are being encouraged to tune in to ZIZ on Monday night to view the interview. They are also being encouraged to Text to Vote for their favourite choice for Best Radio & Television Interview.
Judges for Friday’s interview were Ms. Claudette “Polly” Manchester, Ms. Ozelle Martin and Mr. Denzil Crooke. The interviewer was Mr. Jason Davis from ZIZ. The results of these interviews will be made known on the night of the pageant.
