The launch ceremony, hosted by Unoma Allen was followed by a colorful parade of masqueraders and costume presentation of Carnival troupes from The Sky is the Limit by DFX and Birds of Feather by Phunn Vybez.
Carnival Chairman, Mr. Sylvester Anthony made an official announcement of this year’s jingle and slogan winners along with the release of the calendar of activities. “The slogan winner is none other than Jaiida Sutton with ‘Join the fun and revelry, Sugar Mas 43 and the winner of the jingle for the second time around is Nadia Berridge-Williams” the Chairman stated.
The winner of the Slogan Competition will receive a cash prize of $500.00 plus two (2) Passes to National Carnival official events held during the Carnival Season and the winner of the Jingle Competition will receive a cash prize of $1,500.00. Both winners will receive their cash prize at the opening ceremony slated for Friday 21st November 2014.
The Minister of Culture, Hon. Marcella Liburd was also present at the launch and gave brief remarks. “I can assure you that Sugar Mas 43 will be sweeter than 42 and I am encouraging everyone to participate” she said. “Join a troupe, attend the shows, bring out the kids and have fun. I am also impressed that the organizers have chosen to offer a steel pan festival with the youths of our Federation”.
The Minister concluded by conveying her gratitude to all the background workers of the Carnival committees.
