The Strengthening Evidenced Based Decision Making for Citizen Security in the Caribbean – (CariSECURE) Project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Barbados and the OECS. CariSECURE aims to strengthen the capacity of regional and national institutions in 10 Caribbean countries, including St. Kitts and Nevis to collect, analyze and use citizen security data for evidence-driven crime prevention.
UNDP, in collaboration with USAID, and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis will be hosting an official launch of the CariSECURE St Kitts and Nevis National Task Force, and formal endorsement of the Caribbean Citizen Security Toolkit by The Honorable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister and Minister of National Security of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. The Toolkit comprises a set of instruments designed to assist Caribbean Governments on how to improve national-level data management for effective policymaking focused on crime and violence prevention.
The Honorable Dr. Timothy Harris will deliver feature remarks during the event, and other speakers include Mr. Christopher Cushing, USAID Mission Director for the Eastern and Southern Caribbean; Ms. Sharon Ramsaran, USAID Rule of Law Specialist, and Mr. Stephen O’Malley UNDP Resident Representative for Barbados and OECS. Mr. Osmond Petty, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of national Security, will chair the proceedings. Media are invited to attend the ceremony. CariSECURE represents a partnership between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and UNDP, made possible through the generous support of the American People. The Project improves youth crime and violence policy-making and program development in the eastern and southern
Caribbean through the use of quality, comparable and reliable national citizen security information. CariSECURE will achieve this goal by strengthening the capacity of regional and national institutions to collect, analyze and use citizen security data to develop evidence-based policies and programs that address root causes of criminal activity, particularly among youth. The National CariSECURE Task Force will thus drive the implementation of activities that are necessary to achieve this goal in St. Kitts and Nevis.
