Injunction granted, now legal challenges loom on boundary changes

Making a presentation on Fort Street to dejected supporters, shortly after the Boundary changes were passed in the House, word trickled in that the injunction was successfully granted, at which time supporters began rejoicing.

However, Team Unity member and People’s Action Movement candidate in constituency #2 Jonel Powell explained that the injunction means that the governor-general cannot sign the proclamation, if he has not done so as yet.

“The information that we have received is that the Judge has approved an injunction preventing the governor-general from signing the proclamation to change the boundaries…obviously, we must look at the timing and see whether or not the governor-general has signed that and if he has not, then he cannot,” Powell explained.

Further, Powell described the actions in the House as a “travesty”.

“In my personal and legal opinion, we will have to strategize and look at our legal options and take the necessary legal actions to right what happen?” Powell said.

The lawyer disclosed that if it is a case that the proclamation has been signed, they would look at legal avenues available to them.

“We will look at the options that we have to explore and execute the most appropriate one,” Powell disclosed.

Resident Magistrate Marlene Carter, who heard the matter in the High Court, granted the injunction.
