The Chinese PC maker is looking to team up with Japan’s NEC Corp. (NEC) in the smartphone business, Japanese news media reported earlier in the week. The two companies already have a PC joint venture in Japan with Lenovo holding 51%.
Lenovo is close to overtaking Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) as the world’s largest seller of PCs. It is looking at expanding its smartphone business.
Lenovo is the second-largest smartphone vendor in China after Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE).
