There has been no statement from the management at the St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority, but on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th January, 2012, the regional airline LIAT was forced to cancel their evening schedules, leaving passengers stranded.
According to reliable reports, the cause behind the cancellations was not related to LIAT, but instead, the non-functioning of the lighting system to assist the aircrafts in their normal landing and take-off operations.
Flights that were interrupted included those heading to St. Maarten and Antigua. It is estimated that over 100 passengers, incoming and out-going, were affected on the two days when the lighting system failed to perform.
There has been no explanation to indicate the cause of the lighting problem.
