LIME rejects unfair practice claims by Digicel

The management of LIME has now pushed back on those charges, dismissing the arguments of their corporate adversary.

The argument being made is that LIME has been unfairly charging customers for calls made to certain numbers on the network.

While calling on the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, (NTRC), to investigate the allegations Digicel issued a statement last week alleging, that as far back as November, 2013, it had detected unusual calling patterns to LIME numbers across 12 of network’s Caribbean markets.

They said they launched an investigation which discovered that consumers may have been improperly charged for calls to certain LIME numbers.

Rebutting the claims, the Chief Executive Officer for LIME, Martin Roos, in his own statement said, “there is absolutely no substance to Digicel’s claims about overcharging, and we will be communicating this to the regulators”. He added that the situation had been resolved in January this year.

As far as the LIME CEO is concerned the charges are part of Digicel’s “mischief-making which will potentially mislead both their customers and LIME’s, and take attention away from the fact that LIME has better value propositions in the market. “LIME stands for transparency and respect in our pricing,” he added.

But Digicel insists that despite persistent efforts to work with LIME to rectify the situation and multiple assurances from LIME that the situation has been corrected, the Irish company continues to find intermittent examples of the issue continuing in various LIME markets in the Caribbean.

However with the charges from Digicel coming at a time when LIME was receiving the “Consumer Choice Award,” as communications service provider of the year” from the St. Kitts and Nevis Government, some have questioned the timing of the charges from Digicel.

The government had carried out a survey to assess the public’s views on which company they felt was the best mobile service provider in St. Kitts and Nevis. They selected LIME.
