As the principal sponsor of the event, local telecommunications company, LIME, has again demonstrated its firm commitment to the initiative and according to the company’s Marketing Manager, Darien Belle, it is a project that is more than worthy of the support.
“We have made a commitment to the grassroots level of sports,” Belle said. “We understand that this is the foundation for the top athletes in the Federation and we want to make sure that, that foundation is strong and lives on. So we will be supporting this programme into the foreseeable future and other such programmes because we believe in what it does for our children.”
Mr. Belle cited a tagline of his company and added that the inclusion of life skills training in addition to football related activities is most welcomed.
“One of the meanings of living every day is learning every day,” he said. “As you go through life you will definitely have obstacles. You have low times and you have high times. One of your goals should be to learn from the low times and allow that to help you to go to the high times and enjoy success and be a good citizen. I think the LIME-Elvis Star Browne Football Camp definitely does teach our children how to learn from their mistakes and push forward in life and be successful.”
The commitment of LIME was recognized by the Director of Sports, Dave Connor, who saluted the telecommunications company its 19 years of partnership in advancing football development in the Federation.
The company is once again the primary sponsor for the July 17-31 LIME-Elvis “Star” Browne Football School of Excellence being held at the Garden’s Sporting Complex. The event is organized annually by the Department of Sports and has been held for approximately 20 years.
Belle said that the company is pleased with the success of the training camp which has produced a number of professional players. These include Keith “Kayamba” Gumbs who plays for the champion Sriwijaya football team in the Indonesia Super League, Atiba Harris of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer and Micah Richards of the Manchester City United club of the English Premier League.
Over 50 trainees are participating in the camp that accommodates children between the ages 6-15 years.
