Shortly after his escape on 8th February, 2011, the police’s Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Vaughan Henderson, issued a press release advising the media, and by extension the public, of Ranel Carmichael’s escape.
The release informs that on that day, “Charmichael was among other prisoners working at the compound of the Needsmust Power station when he went to the bathroom at about 2:40 pm…and made his escape.”
The release further informs that on 1st October, 2010, and on 25th January, 2011, the escapee was taken before the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court where he was convicted of two counts of larceny “and was sentenced to serve concurrent three-year terms”.
The escaped Guyanese “has been living in Nevis for the past three years prior to his incarceration” and police suspect that he is likely to “frequent the areas where he was resident immediately after his escape”.
Ranel Carmichael – having been born on 20th May, 1988 – is 23 years of age, weighs about 147 pounds and is 5’11’’ in height. He is dark in complexion and prior to incarceration, is believed to have resided at Rawlins Village, Nevis.
The security forces have indicated that they have launched “a massive manhunt in search of the escaped prisoner” and although it is not clear whether the escapee is considered “armed and dangerous”, the authorities are asking persons, who know of Carmichael’s whereabouts, “to contact the nearest police station.”
Assistance rendered by the public in capturing Carmichael would be deeply appreciated.
