Corp. Elvin Browne of the Traffic Department told MyVueNews.com that the lone occupant, the driver, was receiving treatment at the Sandy Point Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver has been identified as Austin Buchannan of Key Village.
According to the Police, at about 12:30 pm, the driver said he became faint while on the Old Road Bay Road and lost control of his vehicle.
Buchannan was driving eastward (toward Basseterre) when the accident occurred.
This is one of several vehicles that have gone off the road at Old Road Bay for various reasons, and persons have lost their lives using the stretch of road.
The long road is prone to rock slides and mud slides coming off a cliff immediately north of the road, and on the seaside of the road, rail-guards are non-existent in most areas, having long rotted away by sea blast. Additionally, large waves often damage the road during severe storms.
Residents have called on successive governments to implement a permanent fix for the stretch of road to make it safer, but for the time being, users must be content with perpetual patching and repairs when the road becomes damaged or impassable.
