According to Senior Met Officer Elmo Burke, a passing tropical wave, interacting with an upper level trough is causing the medium to heavy rainfall, with isolated thunderstorms, over the islands.
He stated, “Due to this, we have requested a flash flood warning to be issued for the federation with immediate effect. Therefore, persons are asked to take precaution when crossing the ghauts, as some of them will most likely run.”
According to the weather forecast for St. Kitts and Nevis, issued 6:00 a.m., conditions during the morning in particular will be cloudy with showers and rain, plus isolated thunderstorms.
While conditions are expected to improve, as the day progresses, overcast skies and occasional showers and rain are expected into the night.
Winds are ESE at 12 – 18mph on land with higher gusts near showers and reaching near 23mph over open waters. Seas are moderate to locally rough with wave heights of 1.8 – 2.1m, or 6 – 7ft. A small craft advisory is in effect.
