Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim calls for 3-day work week

The 74-year-old telecoms tycoon said during a press conference in Paraguay that it was time for a “radical overhaul” in workers’ lives — but one that would also push back the age of retirement, the Financial Times reported.

“People are going to have to work more years, until they are 70 or 75, and just work three days a week — perhaps 11 hours a day,” Slim, the CEO of Telmex, said during the conference.

“With three work days a week, we would have more time to relax, for quality of life. Having four days (off) would be very important to generate new entertainment activities and other ways of being occupied.”

Slim — who Forbes listed as the second-richest person in the world — suggested the schedule shift would enhance the health of workers and their overall productivity.

Slim is believed to be worth about $79.4 billion, just shy of Bill Gates.
