Basseterre, St. Kitts, 4th April, 2018 ( – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Sport Shawn Richards not only congratulated athletics TeamSKN on its performance, but commended the team on its behaviour during the 2018 CARIFESTA Games that were held in The Bahamas.

Minister Richards was at the VIP Lounge of the R. L. Bradshaw International Airport to welcome home the athletes and officials from the Games. Also at the airport were Executive members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA).

Minister Richards told the athletes, “I must also commend you for your excellent behaviour… I must commend the parents, because it means you must have taken a keen interest in your children. You have brought them up well, and I am happy to see so many supporters here this afternoon in support of your children.”

The sports minister said he understood the challenge of the athletes in balancing sports with their academic requirements, and called on their parents and guardians to continue providing the support they needed.

“You have recognised that with your support, they can reach very far,” Richards remarked.

The minister also commended the management and coaching team for their critical input in helping to shape the competitive readiness of the team.

In his parting comment, he said to the athletes, “Continue to train. Continue to develop yourselves, and I am sure that as you do so, you will have greater achievements.”

He advised the athletes to use the experience to enhance their athletics skills by using best practices they would have experienced, and expressed the view that overall experiences would have made them stronger individuals.
