The cheque handing over ceremony was witnessed by many taxi operators, including Leonard Herbert, President of the St. Kitts Taxi Co-operative, and Clive Thompson, Registrar of Cooperatives.
Pastor W. Buchanan invoked God’s blessing, and Mr. Leroy Jones chaired the proceedings while Shirley Garvey (taxi operator) gave the vote of thanks.
This project has enabled the St Kitts Taxi Co-operative Society to establish a functional office upstairs NR Sales on the Bay Road, Basseterre, through the procurement of furniture and equipment. The project will also facilitate the production of promotional materials such as brochures, a website, video and training in areas such as customer service, communication, health and hygiene, product development, teamwork, leadership and know your country.
The Senior Minister further urged taxi operators to rise to the occasion and by the dint of their hard work and entrepreneurial zest, to make their new office as a springboard for their better organization, efficiency and effectiveness.
Dr. Harris also encouraged the 30 member Co-operative to work together and to show solidarity in the furtherance of their organization’s interest. He encouraged them to make the Coop meaningful to the lives of their members.
The St. Kitts Taxi Co-operative Society Ltd. would like to position itself to adopt a more business-like approach in creating work for its members by establishing direct linkages with local cruise ship agents and other stakeholders in the tourist industry. It also hopes to attract tour jobs from tourism stakeholders, said an official.
