Minister Phipps declares Administrative Professional Week open, lauds the National Association

Members of the association will celebrate the week under the theme, “Administrative Professionals: Empowered to be One”. The week runs from 19th April to the 25th April, with Wednesday, 22nd April designated as Administrative Professionals Day.

Speaking in a public address, Minister of State Wendy Phipps said that for the past 63 years, the administrative professionals’ week has been celebrated to applaud the “professionalism, work ethics and valued service”, which has been demonstrated by administrative support staff in St. Kitts and Nevis and around the world.

“For us here in St. Kitts and Nevis, such official observances began in October 1981, when the National Association of Administrative Professionals (NAAP) was formed,” Minister Phipps said.

“These workplace celebrations are intended to reinforce workplace confidentiality, loyalty and dedication of employees who perform administrative functions that facilitate the mandate of middle and top management,” she continued.

Phipps noted that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has long been honoring the role of administrative professionals, particularly with the annual proclamation.

It is a practice, Phipps said, which dates back to the “era of the Sir Kennedy Simmonds led administration”.

“Today our Team Unity Government, led by Dr. Timothy Harris, is pleased to continue this well established tradition, as a means of saluting the invaluable contributions of all those individuals who perform a sterling administrative service, within the Civil Service and the local private sector,” Phipps stated.

She has called on the country at large to take time out to recognize the contributions that those individuals play in administrative work.

The lone female minister of government also called for the public to recognize those persons who have contributed to the development and longevity of the NAAP, those past and present.

“On behalf of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, I wish the NAAP every success with this year’s week of activities. As the minister of state with responsibility for Social Services and Community and Gender Affairs, it is my pleasure to declare Administrative Professionals Week 2015 open.”
