But, in the last three years, the 39-year-old Grammy winner has been absent spotlight. In an interview with people magazine, Missy explains, she has been privately battling with Graves’ Disease, an autoimmune illness that affects the thyroid.
In the latest issue of People, the Grammy winner said, “You live with it for the rest of your life.”
Missy was first diagnosed with the disease back in 2008; it first began affecting her motor skills, followed by a string of symptoms: dizzy spells, lumps in her throat, mood swings, hair loss, a fast heart rate and bulging eyes.
But after undergoing radiation combined with medication, she’s back and feeling better.
In an interview On VH1’s Behind the Music Premiering on June 29, Missy says “I’m 30 lbs. lighter because I’ve been exercising, ““My thyroid is functioning, and so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months.”
