More money for social programmes

This approach, according to Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, will foster meaningful collaboration, communication, connectivity and resource sharing.

Speaking in a recent budget presentation, Dr. Douglas said this will in turn increase the human resource capacity in each ministry, which will be connected to stimulate community participation, better target community needs and strengthen community leadership.

All this is to be facilitated by the new budget allocation for the Ministry of Social and Community Development which has received an eight percent increase to EC$8,060,818 over the past year’s recurrent expenditure.

Looking ahead to the New Year and the work of her ministry, the Minister of Social and Community Development, Marcella Liburd, has also made known her feelings about the new dispensation of laws that will govern the rights of children in St. Kitts and Nevis and she explained that parents will now be mandated to play greater roles in their children’s upbringing.
