At about 8:00 am on Tuesday May 14, 2013, police responded to a shooting incident at the job site of Cliff Dwellers in Nevis and it was revealed that 29 year old Kishmoy Challenger of Pond Hill was shot and was taken to the Alexandra Hospital.
By mid afternoon his condition was said to be stable after undergoing emergency surgery but Challenger succumbed to his injuries just after 5:00 pm.
Challenger was among five youths who were convicted of the March 2004 murder of Hamilton resident, Eric Weekes. Weekes was murdered in the vicinity of Superfoods and at the time was only 16 years old.
All five men were convicted on April 12, 2006 at the Nevis High Court and saw Challenger being sentenced to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour.
In October 2008, the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal freed Challenger and three others due to lack of evidence to support their alleged involvement in the death of Weekes. However, the judges rejected the motion of the fifth man, who remains behind bars.
Challenger’s death marks the third murder in Nevis for the year 2013.
