At a brief ceremony held on Monday afternoon (October 22) at the Port Zante temporary offices of National Caribbean Insurance, General Manager Mrs Judith Attong presented a sponsorship cheque of $6,000 to the Vice President of the Sandy Point Football Association, Mr Leroy Benjamin Jr.
“National Caribbean Insurance Company Limited, which is a member of the National Bank Group of Companies is pleased to sponsor the Sandy Point Football Association’s league,” said Mrs Attong. “We have always sponsored anything to do with the young people, going into sports or anything which will assist them in making proper choices in life.”
In response, Vice President Mr Leroy Benjamin Jr expressed his gratitude to Mrs Attong and the National Caribbean Insurance for the donation, saying it will be a great boost to the young people in Sandy Point and the surrounding communities to have football action after a long spell.
“I want to be grateful for National Insurance,” said the Vice President. “These are difficult times and for the management to support us in that way, we must be grateful. This goes a long way to help to build and develop the youngsters in the community and the surrounding communities with their football skills.”
Sandy Point Football Association’s PRO, Rev Clive Saunders, who was present at the ceremony, said that they are looking at having between eight and nine teams to take part in the league which will kick off on the first weekend of November.
“We are hoping also to have some other teams from the nearby communities,” said Rev Saunders. “This is not the first time we are holding the league, but we never had a league for about ten or so years. We now have a new executive in place, to make sure that from this year football will be in session in Sandy Point.”
