Head of State for St. Kitts & Nevis, Governor General, Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, on Sunday, (16th September, 2011), led citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis in the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving service , in honor of the 29th anniversary of independence for the federation.
Sir Cuthbert was joined by the Prime Minister, Dr. Denzil Douglas and other parliamentarians at a church service held at the St. Georges Anglican Church where a number of dignitaries and top government officials gathered to be a part of the ceremony.
The service saw scriptures being read by Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and also members of local religious organizations.
The spoken word was delivered by Reverend Jeremy Francis Pastor of the Estridge and Bethel Moravian Churches who spoke about the theme being observed for the independence celebrations. He indicated that if one is serious about cherishing children they should be willing to take a stand for them.
He added that the book of Isaiah gives us all the reasons why a stand should be taken.
Francis also said that they must do all that they can to uphold the children ensuring that they stay on the right path.
Wednesday 19th September is the actual Independence Day– a public holiday. The main event planned for that day is the traditional Ceremonial Parade which will be held at Warner Park Cricket Stadium at 8 A.M.
