Radel Charles Thompson (Master’s in Natural Resources Management and Policy) and Theodore Gareth Phipps (Master’s in Business Administration) were selected to pursue Graduate studies at the University of the West Indies, Barbados Campus. At the Undergraduate level, Jennifer Idetha Liburd will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education at the Grand Canyon University, U.S.A., through distance learning and Verona Dannicia Sutton will work towards completing a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry, at Midwestern State University, U.S.A.
Additionally, two nationals, Louvina Patricia Williams, who will pursue a certificate in “Financial Management” and Sandra Patricia Richardson, who will complete a Certificate Program in “Project Leadership”, of St. Kitts and Nevis, were awarded partial scholarships to participate in an online Certificate Program, namely the 2012/OAS/eCornell Scholarship Program, by the OAS, through its Partnerships Program for Education Training.
Mr. Starret Greene, OAS Representative in St. Kitts and Nevis, expressed his delight that the OAS Scholarship and Training Program continued to provide citizens of the Federation with the opportunity to pursue higher education in areas of specialization that were supportive of the developmental thrust of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The OAS Diplomat said that he was encouraged by the number and quality of applicants from St. Kitts and Nevis who were seeking financial support from the organization, including accessing the interest free loans offered by the Leo S Rowe Fund. Mr. Greene also emphasized that developing the human resource capacity of the Federation was an essential prerequisite to building and maintaining a strong democracy in an environment of peace, stability and prosperity.
The Organization of American States, which consists of 34 independent countries of the hemisphere, is the world’s oldest regional institution, which focuses on promoting democracy, defending human rights, ensuring a multidimensional approach to security, fostering integral development and supporting inter-American Legal Cooperation.
