Nevis trashes BVI in second night of LI debates

The team of Clayticia L Daniels and Richard Matthew was too much for their British Virgin Islands counterparts as they went head to head on the topic “A college education is becoming less important to the success of Caribbean Youths.” The moot was proposed by Nevis and opposed by the BVI.

In the end however it was Nevis that took honours scoring a comfortable 56 point victory with BVI gaining 437 points compared to Nevis’ 493.

The Best Debater was adjudged to be the Second presenter for Nevis, Richard Matthew.

In the second contest of the night, which turned out to be a one sider, host country Montserrat defeated the visiting St. Maarten squad. Their topic was “The Caribbean Diaspora builds societies abroad, and so has little value for the region”.

Final scores saw Montserrat on 587 points with St. Maarten taking 484, a massive 103 points lead.

The task of proposing the moot was that of St. Maarten, while Montserrat made the case against, as the opposition.

She was said to have “punched” on the salient points in a very engaging way, with good diction, voice control and clarity.

The competition resumes at 6:00pm on Saturday when Team St. Kitts meets Antigua on the topic “CARICOM is justified in its quest for reparations from slavery”. St. Kitts will oppose the moot which is to be proposed by Antigua.

In the second match of the double header on Saturday, Nevis takes on Montserrat over the topic, “There should be term limits for Caribbean Prime Ministers.” Nevis will propose while Montserrat takes on the job of opposition.
