A police statement today confirmed that 57-year-old Wayne Chapman was sentenced to 27 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Shirley Dawn Morton.

The incident, which occurred on 21st January, 2018, took place at a home at Buck’s Hill, said to be owned by Chapman.

Chapman, also known as “Spyer”, was found guilty by a majority verdict on 9th December, 2022. The victim at the time was 45 years old.

The sentence was handed down on Wednesday, 25th January, 2023. His time in prison, however, will include the five years already served on remand.

Police reports back in 2018 indicated that the body of Morton was discovered in the house and that she had visible injuries to the head.

Medical officials pronounced her dead at the scene. Her death, came shortly after another homicide, in the same village. The victim then was Cleone Browne.

A police advisory was eventually issued for the whereabouts of Chapman, who was later taken into custody.
