The event is being organized by the Rotary Club of Liamuiga, RCL, which has revealed that the contest is to be dubbed, “Dance Xplosion – This Is Your Chance2Dance!”
A spokesperson for the group said eligible groups must have between two to six members, ages 16-25. They added that groups will be required to perform choreographed routines in traditional and contemporary Caribbean and African genres and more.
Over $5000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs, with the winner receiving EC$3,000; First Runner up EC$1,500 and the Second Runner up or third place being allowed EC$500.00
The competition will be divided into zones to facilitate the preliminary rounds or eliminations.
- EAST ZONE – Monday 27th August, 2012 – Cayon Primary Hall – 6 p.m.
- BASSETERRE ZONE – Tuesday 28th August, 2012 – BHS Auditorium – 6 p.m.
- WEST ZONE – Wednesday 29th August, 2012 – Charles E. Mills Auditorium – 6 p.m.
- NEVIS ZONE – Friday 31st August, 2012 – Nevis Performing Arts Centre – 6 p.m.
The Finals are to be staged on Saturday 15th September, at Carnival Village, from 8:00pm.
The spokesperson indicated that application forms are available, online, at www.rotaryliamuiga.org or facebook.com/rotaryliamuiga. They are also available from Warner’s One Stop, Bird Rock and the Department of Culture, Victoria Road. The deadline for forms to be submitted is Monday August 13th, 2012.
Dance Xplosion is the newest of the many programs organized by the RCL, as part of their youth development initiative.
Over the past nine years, RCL has conducted or sponsored numerous programs for the nation’s youth. These included local and regional Primary School Spelling Bee Competitions, Computer Assisted Literacy Solutions (CALS) Training Program for primary and high school aged children, and primary and high school Talent Search Competitions to name a few.
