At a brief ceremony marking the unveiling of the logo and page, Director of Sports Jeffrey Hazel said the success of today’s launch stems from the staff’s “perseverance in pursuing growth through innovation and reflects the philosophy to deliver the best value to [local] sportsmen and sportswomen.”
The design, which incorporates the colours of the national flag, takes on the shape of a bulb with silhouettes of persons playing various sports. Each colour as it was explained is associated with an activity of the department such as green for the grass of facilities, yellow for partners and the two stars at the top represents the sister islands of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Beneath the logo, the Department’s motto “Going the Distance” is featured symbolizing the commitment of stakeholders to allow athletes to achieve their full potential.
Minister responsible for sports the Honourable Glenn Phillip explained that the occasion is “another step in establishing the Department on a firm and lasting foundation.”
“Over the years the Department has been utilizing our Coat of Arms for all business purposes,” he stated. “The usage of this logo and Facebook page will give us a corporate look that stands out to deliver services to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Noting that there has been a paradigm shift in the way Government does business, Minister Phillip added that “… we are conducting business in a corporate environment focused on vision and mission. Our new identity is one part of a broader initiative which clearly defines our Department today and syncs our ambition for the future.”
The Minister revealed that the new tools will also enhance communication between the public and the public sector agency and said he welcomed the increased feedback as persons weighed in on the programmes and other related activities of the Department.
The logo was designed by Nakita Garnett who is employed under the People Employment Programme (PEP).
