The school which is situated in the western area of St Kitts has a new computer room, library and upgraded staff room. The old administrative block housed the library which was also used as the reading recovery room, office and a small quarter which was used as the staff room.
Parliamentary Representative of the area Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, Principal of the School; Mr. John Gumbs, Minister of Education, Nigel Carty; Permanent Secretary, Mr. Osmond Petty and Project Officer, Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), Mr. Calvin Martin all toured the new facilities.
Principal Gumbs told the touring party that the school also has a hall which housed four classes in earlier years and one class just recently. The hall would be upgraded with the construction of an indoor stage, tiled floor, improved lighting and upgraded windows.
Other improvements are to be carried out to give the school a completely new look he explained.
“Then we can look at the possibility of renaming the St. Paul’s Primary School,” said Mr. Gumbs.
Dr. Douglas who also received his premier tutelage at the St Paul’s Primary School told students at a visit of their (school’s) General Assembly that the institution holds great memories for the federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
“It is here at the St. Paul’s Primary School – though originally it was located in a different place – that our first Premier and First National Hero, The Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw attended school. In fact it is this school, the St. Paul’s Primary School that he had his entire formal education and so this school holds history and memory.” said Dr. Douglas
“It is also the school that I myself attended and having the distinction of being the Second Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis.”
The St Paul’s Primary School is one of the largest rural schools on the island of St Kitts.
