Dolphin explained however, that individuals who use the parking area will now be charged a fee of EC$2.00, per hour instead of the previous minimum of $1.00, and $20.00 for overnight parking, up from $15.00.

The Project Manager said that, the intention is to make the new system as customer friendly as possible. He said that while the project was in the development process, there were numerous discussions with stakeholders, such as taxi operators, who regularly use the facility. He said that SCASPA believes that if they are going to make a new system, it must involve the opinions and options of the motorists and regular users of the facility.

He said that the new arrangements for parking were necessary to improve customer satisfaction. As part of the improved measures, SCASPA has eliminated the old ticket booth from the entrance to help reduce considerably the congestion for vehicles passing through the gate.

For example said Dolphin, “We have quite a number of international flights coming into our federation and what we see is that after the vehicles pick up their passengers at the departure area, there is sometimes a long line of vehicles using the facility.”

With the new system, only the motorists using the public parking lot will be required to pay the toll.

Taxi operators will no longer be required to pay what they termed was a nuisance fee of $1.00 daily. Also exempted will be persons who are dropping off airport workers.

These measures said Dolphin should result in a quicker movement of vehicles passing through the airport. He said that this measure provides a much more efficient system that should please customers who would become more encouraged to use the facility.

Customers should also take note that as long as one is inside the public parking area, the traffic must flow ONE WAY, entering on the eastern end, on the lower side of the parking lot, with exist also on the eastern section but on the northern or upper side of the new ticket booth.

The maximum waiting time for motorists doing pick up and or drop off is five, (5) minutes.
