Local artistes have decided to come together and put on an event dubbed ‘New SK Fest’, as a way of overcoming “negativity with positivity through music”. The event has been going on for several hours at Independence Square and ends in the evening, 12th August, with young artistes in concert.
Speaking with MyVueNews.com, Rahsaun Bass, popularly known as Rb The Mayor, said that he collaborated with Kactus Entertainment and Mod Stoney in order to put on the event, hoping for a change in the mindset of the people. He cited that the name of the event is very significant.
“We are trying to get out of the old and come into the new. With all the negativity and high crime rate, we want to get out of the ‘badness’ and [step] into positivity,” Bass said. He indicated that we have to take a stand and make the effort, adding, “We are putting a foot forward and showing the public that we are trying, and hopefully they will come out and give a listening ear.”
Performing artiste Tiandre Chapman, affectionately known as Bob.t, stated that he is excited about the event and expects that people will come out and support. His art is making beats and indicated that he has hopes of advancing his career.
“I am working on something for the upcoming Carnival Season,” Chapman said, indicating that it is his hope that he will be able to produce music on a wider scale and not just for St. Kitts.
The organizers are expecting that the general public will come together and support the event, just as the artistes have come together to make it happen. Bass said that local CDs will be on sale, and it is also an opportunity for young talent to be showcased.
The event will feature artistes such as Infamus, Nicha B, Dejour, Mod Stoney, Shanna, Kjah and many more.
