As they took responsibility as new soldiers, Commander Wallace urged them to carry out their duties with “courage to do the right thing”.
“Courage is defined under our motto as our steadfast resolve to succeed in whatever we do; exemplifying boldness of action, decisiveness and stamina to overcome obstacles and achieve our mission despite all odds. It is our aggressive fighting spirit, tenacity and strength of character … the inner strength that leads us as soldiers to do what is right over what is popular,” said Lt. Colonel Wallace at the 23rd April passing out ceremony.
Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris pointed to the critical role they would play in helping to shape a secure nation that supports the country’s development.
“You will be called upon to assist the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force in maintaining law and order in our Federation and facilitating a peaceful environment for citizens, residents, visitors and investors. Peace and stability are keys to the realization of the promised prosperity. I thank you in advance for your contribution to our peace and prosperity,” Prime Minister Harris said to the new soldiers.
Commander Wallace took time to commend the new soldiers for their strength and tenacity they exhibited in order to complete the training.
“I wish to go on record saying how proud I am of all of you,” he stated. “You have applied yourselves assiduously throughout your training, succeeding where some of us thought you would have failed.
“My charge to you is that you serve our Federation with loyalty, and you must also have the courage to always do what is right and just,” said Wallace.
In the batch of the 16 new soldiers, it was the first time that the top three recruits were females. Private Zenra Ferdinand earned the position of ‘Best Recruit’.
