Delphic Newtown United and Conaree United Football club formally booked their places to vie for supremacy in the Finals, after Saturday night’s double header at Warner Park; that resulted in an impressive victory for Conaree, over St. Pauls, and a face-saving 1-1 draw for UDC Garden Hotspurs against Newtown.
Going into last night’s final games of the playoffs, Newtown only needed to avoid defeat, in order to qualify, while it was already all over for Spurs who had previously suffered a 4-Nil loss to St. Pauls and a 3-Nil defeat to Conaree.
Meanwhile, Conaree who played St. Pauls in the second of Saturday night’s double drama needed a draw or a win to qualify for the Finals, while St. Paul’s knew that a draw or loss would send them packing until next year.
Therefore both Conaree and St. Pauls came out last night eager for victory. Therefore, in what was an exciting and physical encounter, the Conaree team came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory over St. Paul’s. The defeat for St. Paul’s means that the number one seed in the Premier Division, (St. Pauls), has been eliminated as well as the number 4 seed Spurs.
A large crowd was at Warner Park on Saturday evening to witness these two fantastic games.
The Finals of the Digicel Premier Division’s Best of 3 will begin on Wednesday 13th June at 8pm at Warner Park.
