The first half began with both teams having the same mentality, which was to win. Attempts were made by each team, but were blocked by the skilful goalkeepers.
Back and forth on the field the Kittitian/Nevisian and Puerto Rican teams put their months of rough training into effect, passing, blocking and defending as if their lives depended on it.
The first half ends and the second half begins with the same determination.
It was like a steady replay of the first half, each player trying so hard to score to secure their country’s victory.
The Kittitian/Nevisian fans were elated, and went crazy when the DJ played King Konris’s famous song, ‘Unstoppable Force’ to cheer on the team. This was still not enough to help the local team find the back of the net but it did create some hype and feeling of patriotism.
Last two minutes of the game, voices were heard screaming “St. Kitts jus’ one, one for me please”. In the end both teams left the field, without scoring and without securing a much needed victory.
It was the first in a series of qualifying matches, in Group D of CONCACAF playoffs, for the 2014 football World Cup in Brazil.
