Chairman of the Trinidad & Tobago Gas and Oil Exploration conference Shazim Karim said the process is not as easy as it sounds.
“You have to have a lot of infrastructure and foreign individuals would have to come in but Antigua has never established anything in oil and gas. They have not done anything in this regard the only thing I know about is tourism,” Karim said.
During the delivery of the Throne Speech, almost two weeks ago, Governor General Dr Rodney Williams announced government’s plan to proceed with oil and gas exploration.
Dr Williams also pointed out government’s plan to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by using green energy to produce 20 per cent of all electricity consumed in Barbuda, by 2019.
