Our Quality of Life Matters Only When Prime Minister Douglas’ Job Is On the Line

That argument sounds very much like the one the same Minister of government used after the Harris’ Home for the Boys was opened earlier this year. The Harris’ Home was destroyed by fire some fifteen (15) years ago, soon after Douglas became Prime Minister, and despite escalating youth crime, especially murders amongst teenaged boys, despite the overcrowding at our lone prison facility (that houses adult and youth offenders), Douglas Labour could not find the money to rebuild the home to cater for the critical social development needs of our young, at risk, boys. But Douglas Labour could find money to reportedly give Kittitian Hill some $90 million from the SIDF “illegal fund”. Douglas Labour could find over $200 million to spend on the LaVallee phantom tourism development project which has only a dilapidated 3-mile long fence to show for that astronomical expenditure. Douglas Labour could find some $30 million to spend on a phantom real estate development at Potato Bay where there is one (1) incomplete house sitting on a hillside; Douglas Labour could find over $80 million in Social Security to build some ten (10) houses at Beacon Heights. The misplaced priorities of Douglas Labour don’t stop there. Whilst a National Health Insurance Scheme, the Harris’ Home, inter alia, remained at the bottom of Douglas Labour’s agenda for some eighteen (18) years, we had some 100% cost overrun on the FT Williams Highway, a road which CDB apparently deemed of poor quality within one (1) year of its opening; a local hotelier was apparently allowed to “illegally” collect and keep some $100 million in hotel accommodation tax which should have been paid into the government treasury; some $20 million of our money was earmarked to repair the road going to and through Christophe Harbour; some $40 million was reportedly paid by the SIDF “illegal fund” as a deposit on the purchase of a large “real estate project”; some $10 million of SIDF “illegal fund” was channeled through a local bank to fund another “real estate project” on the outskirts of Basseterre; and the list goes on and on including Lex Consulting and LAD!

Clearly, Douglas Labour cares nothing about the quality of life of our people. They pretend only to care, and do only so much, around election time when their job is on the line, to hold on to power “for green death”, for God knows what!.

The quality of our roads matter only when Douglas Labour’s job is on the line; ensuring a healthy environment is a priority only when Douglas Labour realises its con job is over; the maintenance of our schools matter only when their job is in jeopardy; the quality of health care delivery at our hospitals matter only when they realise they’re about to be tossed out of office; the high cost of electricity is a concern and Douglas “wants to cry”  only when his job is up for grabs; the cost of Cable TV service is only a concern when the people are ready to give them the boot; the youths of this country get work, sometimes three (3) and four (4) to one job, when Douglas Labour’s job is being challenged; reducing crime is only a priority when their is a rising tide against their incumbency; the high cost of basic food items is only a concern when the people are calling LOUDLY for CHANGE; over-taxation and its stifling effect on economic growth is only of concern when Douglas Labour  realises that the people have them in their rear view mirror.

Douglas Labour has never put our people’s health, security and pursuit of happiness first. Matter of fact, in no time, Vance Gilbert has embraced the Douglas Labour culture of putting their interest ahead of that of the people. In a one (1) minute speech in Mansion last night, he said he would bring a kind of leadership that would “put everybody last”…I kid you not…it’s on tape! Of course, we all know that putting everybody last is not new to Douglas Labour…that’s where the people of this country have been for the past eighteen (18) or so years under Douglas Labour.

We Deserve Better…We Need Unity!
