Basseterre, St. Kitts, 14th March, 2018 ( – In a hand-over ceremony at the JNF General Hospital on Tuesday, 14th March 2018, the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) Foundation donated essential medical supplies to the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Health.

PAHO Foundation consultant Minerva Saddler, a Kittitian by birth, presented the substantial medical supplies to Minister of States Wendy Phipps, who has responsibility for health matters in the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The donation came following a request for assistance to PAHO, after the 2017 highly active hurricane season that impacted the federation.

Phipps said the supplies will be distributed to the “institution based health services in St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as the Department of Social Services”.

Responding to the PAHO presentation of the medical supplies, the substantive Minister of Health Eugene Hamilton commended Saddler for her work on the project.

Hamilton said, “While it is true that this is a PAHO Foundation contribution, we cannot ignore the role being played by yourself [Ms. Saddler]. We thank PAHO, the Foundation, for responding to the call of the prime minister and to Minister Phipps, and to deliver these to us today.”

Saddler indicated that the PAHO Foundation donation was a first phase and that she will be involved in other phases of assistance to the federation, for the improvement in the country’s healthcare system.

The 40-foot container of donated supplies included wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, baby supplies, stationery, needles, clothing, and oxygen machines.

The PAHO Foundation was founded in 1968 and is a non-profit organization created by PAHO with the mission of improving the health and well-being of people in the Americas.
