Richards said that the resilient and proud people of Nevis have spoken in certain terms about their future; and they have made their feelings known about which party is truly the best option to lead them out of their current difficult economic circumstances. The PAM leader however cautioned that the road ahead will require the contributions of all Nevisians and now that the elections are over, urgent steps will be needed to heal the island community, in order to restore the proud legacy of peace and tranquility for which Nevis has always been known.
The PAM leader said he also wishes to congratulate all the winning candidates from the Nevis Reformation Party, NRP and the Concerned Citizens Movement, CCM. He said, while he extends his very best wishes and God’s guidance to the incoming CCM Island Administration, it is also important to recognize the success of NRP’s Robelto Hector and the outgoing Premier Joseph Parry.
But Mr. Richards, who is the Member of Parliament in the Federal National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis for Sandy Point, indicated that the strong mandate given to the CCM and the election of Mr. Alexis Jeffers, Mr. Mark Brantley and Mr. Vance Amory should be viewed as testimony of the confidence that is entrusted in them by their fellow citizens. Richard said it is a trust that must be taken as sacred and one that he is convinced will serve as a guiding principle for the new island government.
However, the real winners of Tuesday’s elections said Mr. Richards, were the people of Nevis, because despite the divide in the island and the bruising campaign, the people remained calmed, respectful and law abiding. This is an example that people of all nations must admire and to which they must aspire, stated Richards.
Looking ahead, the PAM leader said that there is an “urgency of now”, to restore confidence, not only in Nevis, but the entire federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
