PAM Town Hall Meetings Moving into Sandy Point & Central Basseterre

In particular, according a senior party official, the meetings are also being used to hear from citizens about problems they may be experiencing in their communities. However, the main focus of the discussions will remain on the high cost of electricity and the government’s decision to swap some 1,200 acres of former sugar lands to the National Bank, to help reduce its debt to the institution of 900 million dollars.

Members of the party will be meeting with residents of the town of Sandy Point tonight, Wednesday 24th October, at the Sandy Point Community Center starting at 7:00pm.

Very important issues affecting Sandy Point and the entire nation will be discussed and particular emphasis will be placed on the “Land for Debt” and Electricity issues.
Addresses will be made by various individuals and groups including SPACS, CIPEO, SPIRIT and the Nyabinghi Theocracy Order, said a party statement.

The meetings will next week move into Central Basseterre, where officials there have said the Central Basseterre PAM Constituency Group has finalized arrangements for the hosting of their leg of the meetings.

That meeting is set for Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Wesley Methodist Church Hall, formally the Old Boys’ School.

Deputy Chairman of the People’s Action Movement Jonel Powell outlined the main issues that will be discussed at the meeting.

“There is little doubt what is consuming the thoughts our people with regards to issues in our country at this moment. Those issues are Lands and Electricity. Those two issues will be discussed at length and presentations by our esteem Party Leader the Hon. Shawn Richards, along with other specially invited guests and groups will be making presentations regarding both issues. The entire public, and let me emphasize the entire public is invited, regardless of your political affiliation. The meeting is a meeting of residents and citizens and not of party members or sympathizers. Therefore all are invited,” Powell stated.

The series of meetings began on October 3rd at the Newtown Community Center with Social Commentator and Sports Administrator Ian “Patches Liburd as a guest presenter, along with featured speaker Party Leader Hon. Shawn K. Richards. The series continued last week Wednesday with a large meeting.
