Pay As You Enter

Officials from the bus drivers associations here in St. Kitts, admonished that passengers are to acknowledge the ‘Pay as You Enter” signs on the buses; which they claim are supposed to be supported by legislation.

They added that not paying as you enter, means that one is travelling at one’s own risk and if the bus happens to get into and accident, and a passenger is injured, once they have paid the bus upon embarking the vehicle, they will be compensated by the insurance company covering the bus; but if the passenger has not paid, they will not be eligible for compensation.

The bus drivers also said that they are currently strictly enforcing the pay as you enter rule more than before. This has become necessary because of the activities of some unscrupulous commuters who fail to pay or may short change the drivers before running off.

It was explained that commuters really do not have an option to pay as they enter, because it is the law.

The Association officials however indicated that the main priority, when transporting passengers, is ensuring their safety.
