Dubbed, “De Calypso Legend”, Phunnmakers will be showcasing 4 sections during the carnival parade through the streets of Basseterre.
According to Ms. Walwyn, the sections will display four of King Ellie Matt’s hit songs.
The four sections will feature 1982 hit song, “Viva St. Kitts”, 1980’s, “De Wicked Fifer”, 1977 – “Yankee in Action” and From 1982, “Patsy”.
“We wanted to do something with a difference this year,” the mas leader said, adding that the camp initially began their preparations in May.
“This year’s presentation came about following a survey we did. We achieved this concept without persons even knowing what was the objective behind us questioning them about their opinions of the hottest songs for King Ellie Matt. The king too was also included in our idea during his return for this year’s music festival, which he agreed to,” Walwyn added.
PhunnMakers Mas camp is currently the longest running carnival troupe and will be launched on Friday, 5 November, starting from 5:00pm, at what is now known as, “The Phunn Spot,” according to the mas leader.
“The Phunn Spot”, will be located at the end of the Kim Collins Highway, on the open lawns located on the right hand side of the road.
This year PhunnMakers is being supported by their long time sponsor Carib Brewery and new comers, Brinley Gold and Grace Tropical, through agents O.D Brisbane.
When ask if they are ready for carnival, this was Walwyn’s response, “PhunnMakres Mas Camp is poised and ready to have the usual “phunn” for this carnival, with its presentation De Calypso Legend.
The costumes were designed and are being made by Trinidadian, Anthony “Ras” Alleyne, who currently resides in Canada.
