However, on Nevis, to combat this health crisis, Physical Trainer within the Ministry of Sport, Masefield Nisbett has indicated that he is on a definite mission to deal with the numerous cases of obesity within the Nevisian community, referred to as ‘Fat Attack’.
According to media reports out of Nevis, Nisbett’s goal is to get all interested persons to a peak level of fitness. Sometime last year, Nisbett started a regular ‘walk for your health’ program which is open to members of the public and this year he has indicated that these walks will be regularly held every third Monday of each month. Currently Nisbett is conducting a regular fitness program each Monday afternoon in conjunction with the Jubilee Center; a church body based in Charlestown.
In addition, Nisbett has teamed up with Sports officers Carl Tuckett, Leroy ‘Jun Jun’ Sweeney and Charlene Martin to have a fitness program within the Primary Schools.
Nisbette further explained that “This will serve to enhance the programs being run by the Coaches within the schools and not conflict with such programs.” He noted that the schools are currently preparing for their individual sports meets and the grand inter primary match up and the sports officers have put the two week program in place which will incorporate all of the schools, with the intention of getting the children fit.
Nisbett says he is pleased with the response of the children so far and believes that the various sporting competition this year will be highly competitive.
