The walk takes place on Saturday, 15th October 6:00am sharp.
A spokesperson for the group said once this aim is achieved, it would enable the charity to offer free mammograms to another 100 women. Already, 100 women have benefited during the first phase of the BSP at a cost of EC$25,000 raised through past walk-a-thons, other fund-raisers and through contributions by well-wishers.
The walk-a-thon will commence at Chicken Stone at the entrance of the Eva Wilkin Art Gallery and end at Sunshine’s Bar and Grill Restaurant, Pinney’s Beach.
Registration fee for adults is EC$25 while registration fee for children is EC$15. This fee enables walk-a-thon enthusiasts to get a T-shirt and a healthy breakfast at the conclusion of the walk-a-thon.
Registration forms can be obtained from the Nevis Tourism Authority and at AI Technology. Registration forms can be emailed to potential walk-a-thon participants on request. Registration will also take place at the Memorial Square, Charlestown on Wednesday October 12 and Friday October 14. There will be no last minute registration on October 15.
Julie Claxton, Pink Lily Events Coordinator, called on the walk-a-thon enthusiasts to walk and not to run. “It is a walk-a-thon not a run”, she said. She also said there are prizes to be received.
Gold sponsor for the event is Cape Air. Other sponsors and individual contributors include LIME, the St. Kitts and Bottling Company, TDC Nevis, Sunshine’s Beach Bar & Grill, Boddie’s Café, the Pembertons and Bridgette Hunkins.
