This year’s production, which was titled, “Playtime”, featured a wide array of pieces aimed to entertain, amuse, cause to reminisce and awaken the inner child.
According to the Director of the school, Ms. Slack, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
The group used dance to speak to critical issues such as crime and violence in our society, peace, the effects of crime on children and society, fashion, games of old, favourite past times and bullying, especially amongst children.
It was another colourful display of the talent of our youth, with presentations from the Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors.
The audience was also entertained by the performances of Samal Duggins, Sharalee Mourillon, CFBC Dance Ensemble, and Children’s Dance Theatre, the winner of the Maurice Hiller Memorial’s Rainbow Pageant-Andraia Esdaille and the winner of the Tucker Clarke Miss Virtues pageant-Kadeema Blanchette.
Another exciting highlight of the recital was the “Daddy daughter Dance”, featuring the fathers of the children of the dance school, dancing to the Elvis Presley song, “Teddy Bear”. This brought much enjoyment for all in the audience who credited the daddies for their splendid presentation and display of love and affection with their daughters.
It was also graduation time for the Senior Class of the Fireflies Dance School. Sixteen dancers graduated, including Tiauna Benjamin, Tatiana Collins-Williams, Viquanna Edwards, Erin Ettienne, Andria Esdaille, Geetanjali Hanley, Tyla Hector, Sinea Henry, Zende Magloire, Tavique Mallalieu, Soleil Martin, Sabrina McMahon, Aisha Paige, Brianna Peets, Breanna Rogers and Makayla White.
