Al-Nasser was invited to the Caribbean territories by the Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas who as at the time visiting the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nation.
The CARICOM Chair explained that the meeting was of relevance and showed that the people and the Caribbean Community Heads of Government are very important to the upcoming United Nations High Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases.
A press release issued by the CUOPM quoted the Douglas saying, “The meeting was courteous and fruitful and was mainly to reinforce the enormous importance that the Caribbean Community Heads of Government and Peoples places on the upcoming United Nations High Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases in September, and the follow up actions to be pursued from the Political Declaration as the Outcome Document.”
An agreement derived that such can be integral in outlining the legacy of the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Prime Minister Douglas stressed on the point that the Head of State of Qatar should attend, and extended a special invitation for His Highness the Emir of Qatar to join other CARICOM Heads of State and Governments as a Guest to the Special Side Event to mark the occasion.
Permanent Representatives of Barbados, The Bahamas and Belize, along with St. Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, His Excellency Ambassador Delano Bart, Q.C. all accompanied the Prime Minister to this meeting.
