PM Douglas Highlights Economic Spin-Offs Of Construction Projects

During his weekly radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister” on Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas said it is this type of economic activity that his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government sees as being key to the security of the country and that is why it is these types of projects are pursued aggressively.

“It also means more business, more work, more income, and better lives for Kittitian and Nevisian surveyors, builders, plumbers, architects, engineers, excavators, hardware companies, electricians, air conditioning specialists and banks, all performing their respective roles,” Prime Minister Douglas told listeners.

He said simply mentioning a project does not fully convey the type of positive, spin-off economic activities that these projects trigger.

Dr. Douglas said the multi-million dollar St. Christopher Club expansion projects continue, even in this period of global economic contraction.

“This expansion involves the construction of condominiums, and this expansion involves the construction of commercial properties,” said Dr. Douglas.

He said the St. Kitts Scenic Railway is also upgrading its equipment in time for the upcoming 2012/2013 Cruise Ship season and intends to partner with existing local businesses in new on-shore attractions to keep the Federation status as a cruise destination.
