The subject selected is in line with the theme chosen for the 28th Anniversary of nationhood, as efforts of the organizing committee are geared towards the preservation of the heritage of the Kittitian and Nevisian people.
The committee has invited the newly appointed Police Commissioner for the country, Mr. Celvin G Walwyn, as their guest speaker for the lecture, which is to take place on Wednesday 14th September, 2011, at the Old Boys School on the corner of Seaton Street and Victoria Road, Basseterre. This will be the 13th year since the start of the series.
Commissioner Walwyn is said to be equipped with a range of skills and expertise, in crucial areas of law enforcement such as intelligence gathering; identification and apprehension; sexual offender surveillance; and identification and apprehension of criminal gang members, is expected to deliver an insightful thought provoking address on the theme of the series with his extensive knowledge.
The annual Prime Minister’s Independence Lecture Series has had previous speakers such as Kittitian Scientist, Dr. Allan Somersall; University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Professor, Kittitian Dr. Frank Mills; prominent Kittitian and Caribbean Jurist and former High Court Judge, Dr. J. S. Archibald; UVI Professor Kittitian Dr. Vincent Cooper; Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Colombia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Kittitian Dr. Spencer Amory; Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Nevisian Dr. Jessica Byron and the Nevisian-born Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, His Lordship, Mr. Justice Hugh Rawlins.
The Prime Minister’s Lecture Series is one of the highlights of events to commemorate this year’s 28th anniversary of Independence.
