Rumours which initially reached MiyVue.com indicated that an individual, said to be in his early 30s, had hanged himself somewhere on the compound of the hotel sometime near the evening of 21st December 2010.
Acting Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Crime (ACP Crime), Superintendent Ian Queeley, confirmed to MiyVue.com that the police responded to a report at about 5:30 that afternoon and when they arrived on scene, they found the individual – who has been identified only as a non-national – “suspended from a door frame in one of the rooms”.
Queeley explained that, from what he gathered, the individual probably lived at the hotel or was room-keeping for who lives there.
A police press release dated 22nd December, 2010 further explained that when officers from the Frigate Bay Outpost responded to the call, they discovered “the body of 31-year-old Joeseph Anand Ras, a national of Aruba who worked and resided in the federation, suspended from the door frame of the bathroom of his hotel room.
“The District Medical Officer visited the scene and pronounced Ras dead. There were no visible and obvious signs of foul play however; an autopsy will be performed at a later date to determine the cause of death. The body of Joeseph Ras was removed to a funeral home under police escort.”
According to the release, the scene was processed by the Crime Scene Department and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
