Basseterre, Wednesday, 24th May, 2023, (MyVue News.com)- The recent death of a well-known and respected educator in St. Kitts is under investigation by police as a possible case of suicide.
A release issued on Wednesday, 24th May, 2023, by local police, confirmed that they are “…investigating a suspected suicide following a call for assistance at the residence of Mr. Oswald Elliott of Nevis Street, St. Kitts.”
That call, said police, was made on May 23rd, 2023 around 9:00 AM.
Elliott, or Oswald as he was known by many, served as a teacher for decades, at various high schools, including those in Cayon, Basseterre, and Sandy Point. He ended his long service at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, as a lecturer.
Some have crowned him as one of the finest English teachers to have served in the country. He was recognized in 2019, for his service to the teaching profession, by being awarded the Medal of Honour, by the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis.
Some friends and persons known by Elliott, have reported that he had expressed concerns regarding aspects of his health and that he had been worried about the final outcome. Others indicated that they had seen him, the day before his demise and showed no signs of what was to come within hours.
Police explained that when they entered his home, the Emergency Services found Elliott inside and unresponsive.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the District Medical Officer.
An investigation into the cause of death will be conducted, assured the police, in their release.
