As the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association, SKNAAA, moves on with its development program two top athletes Tiandra Ponteen and Brijesh Lawrence, were on Friday engaged in the 14th Edition of the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.
However, according to the SKNAAA, a number of athletes, including Ponteen and Lawrence, registered poor reactions from the start, after complaining about not hearing the instructions from the starter, nor the firing of the starting pistol.
They both however were successful in advancing to the semi finals. Tiandra placed 3rd with a time of 53.74 seconds behind American Record Holder Sanya Richards-Ross and Nadine Okyere of Great Britain, whilst Brijesh placed 2nd in a time of 7.00 seconds registering his slowest 60m time in years with the 2nd slowest reaction from the entire field of 8 athletes.
Tiandra competed in her semi final heat last evening (Friday) but was unable to finish her event. Brijesh is expected to compete in the semi finals of the men’s 60m at 5:30pm, Istanbul time or 11:30pm St. Kitts time.
