The lone power company in the island, the St. Kitts Electricity Company, (SKELEC), has announced that it is once again instituting a series of power outages that are expected to affect consumers, in some cases for at least a full 8 hour work day.
The disruption of supply explained SKELEC, is to facilitate maintenance work on their lines, but consumers who are still unhappy about these regular bouts without supply, are finding it somewhat difficult to embrace even planned disruptions, though as SKELEC said, the work is designed to improve the quality and efficiency of the generation of electricity.
Four main areas, in different parts of St. Kitts will be affected, starting Monday 5th until, Thursday 8th November, with each area without supply on different days.
The first to be affected will be Taylor’s Housing on Monday, followed by Conaree on Tuesday, Cedar Grove on Wednesday and Soho and Upper Market Street on Thursday. The official period for the disruption is 8:00am-4:00pm, but as the company always cautions, consumers should exercise due care because supply may be restored sooner than scheduled.
SKELEC has indicated that the interruption in supply during these schedule maintenance periods is absolutely necessary, as they work to improve the performance to their transmission and distribution network.
